First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
Administrative Analyst
After taking an exam, I was contacted several months later because I filled out an interest form. The first interview round was a panel interview where they asked about my subject matter expertise and some behavioral questions. The second round was a technical interview.
- Can you describe a project you were involved in?
Intern
This was a public sector type interview. It was a panel interview with 5 interviewers. They were cold and didn't react to my responses. Each panelist asked one question. The interviewers were taking notes while I responded.
- The intern is engaged in a variety of planning and development activities. Please take a minute to introduce yourself, and to tell us a little bit about you.
- Please describe any skills, experience, or coursework you may have in environmental review.
- Please describe any skills, experience, or coursework you may have in planning code studies.
Design Trainee
You should hear back from them within a month or 2 after applying. An email will tell you that you have the minimum qualification for the job. The interview is a 30 min video call with 3 different interviewers. They ask you three different questions. If you get the position you will hear back from them within 2-3 weeks. If you don't you will never hear back from them.
- How can you promote equity in transportation? Give an example.
Software Engineer
I had an online panel interview with 3 early-to-mid-level engineers. They asked everyone the same 5-7 questions, which were shown on a screen and read out loud. I don't think the panelists saw my resume. Interviewers graded me using a specific rubric that asked for specific examples. For instance, for a question like "What is your style of communication?", they wanted more than just "I'm very direct and tactful."; they wanted reasons and examples of how I communicate.
- Can you tell me about your experience with X skill?
