Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Samsung Electronics America.
Director
A recruiter had reached out to me months ago about another role. When I saw this new role, I reapplied and got in touch with her. She connected me with the hiring manager quickly. I had three interviews with the hiring manager, the COO/CFO of Samsung TV Plus, the Director of Finance, and the VP of Content and Programming. I had another interview set up with the Sr. Director of Product Management in a few days, but then the recruiter called and offered me the job because the team was already sold on me. It was really reassuring and made my decision easy.
- Could you share your professional background with us?
- Can you describe your experience utilizing frameworks with technical and operational teams for resource allocation and prioritization?
- How do you foster trust while maintaining the pace required for necessary changes?
Director
Got a quick but kinda messy recruiter reach-out. It was 3 rounds total. First, the recruiter screened me. They were super blunt about the company's culture problems, almost to the point of being off-putting. Then I talked to the hiring manager for about 30 minutes longer than scheduled, digging deep. The last round involved 30-minute chats with different team members, all remote. No follow-up after the last interview day, which felt a bit weird but kinda fit with what the recruiter said initially about the company culture. The whole process felt reactive and rushed rather than strategic and planned.
- Walk me through your background as detailed on your CV and share your perspectives on where the industry is headed.
Director
The interview process started with a recruiter call, then a Skype call with the head of HR. After that, I flew to Dallas for a 90-minute in-person interview with four people. It was a bit odd during the in-person because most interviewers emphasized how tough it is to work at Samsung. One person even said he disliked his job. On top of that, it took them four months to reimburse me for travel, and even then, it was only partial due to their policies.
- Can you tell me about your previous projects?
- How did you handle a particular challenge in a past role?
