Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Samsara.
Account Development Representative
I had an initial interview booked in and honestly, it was the worst interview experience I've ever had. The interviewer barely asked me any structured questions, instead making vague statements and pausing, expecting me to fill in the blanks. This made it tough to have a real conversation or show my skills. It felt less like an interview assessing my qualifications and more like a confusing test of interpreting unclear prompts. The interviewer was not very engaged, and the whole thing felt unprofessional and unhelpful. Perhaps this recruiter was just trying to meet a quota.

Started with a good recruiter call. The next interview, which I assume was the functional interview, was really bad. I'm not sure if the interviewer was new to this, but they seemed to think being difficult and unclear in their responses and requests was a realistic portrayal of a first customer call. If this were a real situation, I would have just moved on to another prospect. The objections raised weren't really objections, it felt like the interviewer was just trying to be difficult. I did research on their tech and explained how it could benefit a customer, but was told I still needed to 'build' value, which usually requires in-depth product knowledge. I also found it strange because they promote collaborative selling, but when I asked for help during the mock call, I was met with blank stares. The prep document suggested asking to schedule an appointment at the end of each mock call, but then the 'client' chastised me, saying it would likely be a wasted appointment. It was supposed to be a practice call, which was weird. I got an email saying there were many applicants and I wouldn't be moving forward. Also, a heads-up: I was told this company is planning to require employees to return to the office.

The interview process was quick and professional, and I really enjoyed chatting with the interviewers. I had a few assignments to get ready for each step, but everything was sensible and fit the job.
