First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Samsara.
Sales Engineer
It was a pretty long process but I learned a lot and it was tough. I had to do a take-home project which was super interesting, and then present it to managers and directors while doing role play. I get why they did it that way, and they communicated really well throughout the entire thing.
- What motivates you to pursue a career as a Sales Engineer?
Sales Engineer
The recruiter who reached out was super helpful, which made me want this job more. There were 3 rounds. The first was a casual initial talk, but I treated it seriously, and it was mostly behavioral. The second round had me talking to 3 different people at different times about their areas. The last round was supposed to be a presentation about the company's product, but I didn't get to it because someone internal was hired. It was a great experience, and I'm still looking for other roles.
- Can you tell me about any personal projects you've worked on?
Sales Engineer
It's a pretty demanding process. You'll start with 2-3 calls with recruiting. After that, there are about 5 panel interviews, and the final step is an installation task. Honestly, the amount of time they ask for feels a bit much. I got to the very end, but then they told me to reapply in a 'few months' because there wasn't actually a job open. They also mentioned that interviewers across the board pointed out gaps in my skills, which felt like an excuse for not having a position. Maybe they just didn't like my background, but it would've been better to know earlier instead of me spending 9 hours during work hours. It might be a good job if you can get it, but my impression is they do a lot of pointless talent farming without considering your time. The interviewers seemed vague about their daily tasks, implying the job is mostly being on calls and providing tech support when needed. They were also not very open to answering questions, making it more of an assessment of you rather than a mutual fit check.
- Can you explain what an API is and if you have any experience using them?
