First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Saks OFF 5TH.
Sales Associate
It was a pretty straightforward retail interview. He asked me to tell him about myself, and about my previous retail experience, of which I have little. He also asked if I would be okay working on registers and if I had any upcoming vacations or planned time off that I would need. I think it helped that I brought in a printed out version of my resume to the interview, he seemed pleasantly surprised that I had done so. I also had the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the interview where I asked his favorite/least favorite things about working there and what a typical working day would be like.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- Could you tell me about your previous retail experience?
- Are you comfortable working on registers?
Sales Associate
I applied online on the HBC website and got a call back within a week. The interview was located at a hotel, because the Rideau Street store has not opened yet. Overall, the interview was pleasant and relaxed. I was interviewed in an empty lounge area, by the store director. She was very friendly and tried to make conversation with me (outside of the actual interview questions) to get to know me. This made me feel a lot more comfortable during the interview! My suggestion would be to prepare for basic behavioural questions.
- Could you tell me about yourself and walk me through your resume, detailing what you liked and disliked about past positions and how they'd apply here?
- What does good customer service mean to you, and can you share an example of when you provided it?
- Describe a time you had to handle a difficult or angry customer and explain your approach.
Sales Associate
Applied online and then emailed my resume to the manager. The lady was pretty quick and short in her emails. I finally set up an interview date, and she didn't show up. It was a different store manager. It was fine, I just wasn't expecting that. It seemed unprofessional, especially since she never followed up with me. The man conducting the interview said if I was "(insert interviewers name here)" I would hire you right on the spot. She never called me back.
- Tell me what you know about Saks.
- What makes you want to work for Saks?
- What are your salary expectations?
