First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Saipem.
Process Engineer
First, there's a get-to-know-you chat with HR where they explain the job. Then, a video interview where you talk about yourself and answer about 6 questions. After that, a group interview where you tackle a problem together (with some aptitude tests thrown in). Finally, a technical interview with the bosses about a technical issue. The whole thing takes about a month and a half.
- Can you describe a PFD involving a distillation column?
- What are your thoughts on NPSH and pump curves?
- How do you relate flow rate and pipe diameter?
Process Engineer
The interview process involved a technical screen and an onsite interview. During these stages, several questions were asked related to process engineering concepts. These included inquiries about equipment datasheets, simulating heat exchangers in Hysys, the use of seals in relief valves, drawing P&IDs for pumping systems, and understanding pressure differences. Additionally, questions covered the design of flare stacks and relief valves, types of reformers in ammonia plants, heat duty and capacity of ammonia plants, thermodynamic packages for hydrocarbon mixtures, FPSO topside processes, and the significance of Mach numbers.
- Would there be duty information on the equipment datasheet of a cooler?
- How would you go about simulating a heat exchanger in Hysys?
- Have you used seals in relief valves?
Process Engineer
The interview has 3 steps. The first step is an online test (web in basket). The second step is a video interview. The third step was another online test, but I haven't heard back about the outcome of the first two steps.
- Which academic subject was most important for you?
