Sailthru Interview Questions
& Process

First, a recruiter called to screen me. Then, I had a 1st technical video screen where we went over my technical experience, Sailthru's tech stack, and the team. The 2nd technical video screen involved one algorithm problem (leetcode easy) that needed hashmaps and one Linux command problem (using grep, awk, sort, etc. for text parsing). The virtual onsite had a system design problem about microservices, databases, event-driven communication, distributed caching, etc., where I had to design one of Sailthru's sub-systems.

A business contact introduced me to a VP, who then had their talent team reach out. They gave me an overview of the company and the role and reviewed my experience, which seemed to go well since I'd worked for a competitor. This initial call was about 30 minutes. Next, I had a 30-minute call with an EVP that ended up being over an hour. After that, I had three 30-minute interviews with VPs or higher at their New York office. These interviews focused more on pitching the company and answering questions rather than grilling me. They did ask about my sales experience and process and to detail a $100k+ sale I'd closed. I was told within a day that an offer was coming and accepted it in under 10 days.

I applied online and got an email from HR pretty fast for a phone interview. This phone interview was so weird. The first thing the interviewer asked was 'I don't get why you'd apply for this if you're not local.' I was surprised by this. I wasn't planning on moving across the country, but she acted like I was moving from Australia. Then the interviewer just kept talking super fast without reacting to anything I said. She ended the chat by saying 'I like to keep these under ten minutes so if you don't have anything else to say, I'll pass this to HR.' It was super short, quick, and not professional at all. I felt like she was too busy to listen to me and already had a bad feeling about me before we even started talking. It was very short.

It took about two weeks to get the interviews scheduled. We started with a phone screen, and then I spoke with the hiring manager. I talked about my previous jobs and how I've worked with technology and clients. I mentioned my experience working with some of the biggest clients globally and integrating software for them, handling transactions up to almost $100 million. The hiring manager seemed impressed by that, but it wasn't enough for me to move forward.
