Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SAIC.
Manager
Had a great conversation about the position and opportunities for a new business unit. They asked about my experience in the field and the biggest business deal I helped develop. Also asked about my time working with federal and state government and their funding policies.
- Can you provide a strategic analysis for mergers and profit/loss management?
Site Manager
I found the CSF-PREP Site Manager role on the SAIC website and a colleague referred me. I applied online with my resume and cover letter. A week later, the project lead called me for a screening interview. It was a casual chat about my background. He said he was doing initial screenings and would invite candidates for in-person interviews within the week, but he'd be out of office the following week. After 12 days, I followed up and was told interviews would be later that month, but no date was set. Then I got an email asking if I could interview on two specific days. The project lead called again to set a precise time and date. He told me I'd need to prepare a 10-minute presentation on any topic to show I could present to a group. I sent my presentation to the admin staff two days before the interview. They mentioned expecting about six people. The admin staff showed me around the facility when I arrived, and they were really nice. Four people were in the interview: the Regional Manager, Project Lead, Military Liaison/Counterpart, and Overall Site Lead. They explained the interview format and offered me water. For about 45 minutes, they asked me questions, and then I gave my presentation. After that, I got to ask my questions. They thanked me and I left. They said they'd decide within the week. A week later, I emailed to check in and was told they hadn't decided. I got an automated notification that the job was filled, but no direct communication.
- Considering your extensive experience as a client of the organization, how do you think they were failing?
Manager
The interview process was completely unprofessional. I had two phone interviews that went well, where they asked general questions and about the core aspects of the job. However, the in-person interview was a disaster. The job description was misleading, making me think I was well-qualified, but I left confused about their actual needs after being hit with "gotcha" questions on duties that were implied to be secondary. To make it worse, one interviewer made snide remarks about my resume, and she and the hiring manager repeatedly interrupted me to have side conversations while I was answering. It was so bad that another interviewer told them to stop and let me speak. This was one of the most unprofessional things I've ever seen. The hiring manager said he'd get back to me in a week, but it's been over two weeks with no word. If they can't treat candidates with basic decency, I can't imagine how they treat employees.
