First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Safeway.
Intern
I did an online application first, then a director called me. She asked why I was interested in Safeway and the position. It was kind of unexpected as she called when it wasn't a good time for me, but I did my best to answer. After that, HR put me in touch with a group interview with the director and a manager for the next week. This one was more about personality and how I interact with others and communicate. About two weeks after that, I got a call offering me the internship. A few days later, I got the official offer and had to do a drug screening.
- Would you rather work on a team or by yourself?
Intern
I first networked at a career fair and dropped off my resume. I received a call about 2-3 weeks later to set up a 30-minute prescreen phone interview. After that, I had a 15-minute conference call interview with people from the department I was assigned to. Finally, there was a panel interview with 3 managers from that specific department.
- Do you have any examples of how you've managed your time?
- Can you share an instance of when you had to solve a problem?
- Tell me about a time you demonstrated your skills.
IT Intern
So the interview process was pretty standard. It started with a phone call to screen me, which had some general questions. Then, there was a second phone interview with someone from the IT department. Finally, I had an on-site interview that was a panel interview.
- They asked about my programming language skills, mainly focusing on Java.
- They asked about my role within a team.
- They asked me to describe a situation where I had a difficult conversation with someone.
