Product Analyst
Having a good recruiter makes the interview process way less stressful. I had a great one. First, a quick screening call with the recruiter to chat about my resume and what I'm interested in. Then, I got to pick one of 10 datasets. I had a week to analyze it and make a presentation. An analyst reviewed it to see if I moved on. Next was a 45-min Skype call with a Product Manager. You really need to know about the insurance industry for this part to answer well. Having an analytical or modeling background is also a big plus. If that went well, they flew me out to Columbus, Ohio for a full day of interviews. It was intense, like 4-5 rounds with different people. They really dug into my background, experience, and if I was a good fit. Be ready to talk in detail about your analytical projects and why they made sense from a business perspective. (Remember: Insurance analysts focus on spotting trends and making insurance models better than the competition to offer the best rates to customers). My recruiter kept me in the loop the whole time and replied quickly, which really helped me relax and focus on the important stuff.
- Can you discuss potential insurance modeling scenarios and share your thoughts on them to demonstrate your thinking process?
Product Analyst
I was contacted by a recruiter and had a 1 hour phone interview about a week later. The hiring manager for the R&D department, who I believe is located in North Carolina, conducted the interview. She asked a mix of technical, behavioral, and case study questions, and we also discussed my past projects. The whole process took about 2 weeks.
- What would be the impact on insurance pricing if gas prices went down?
- Describe how you manage under pressure.
Product Analyst
The job description for this product analyst role was similar to a market research analyst. They asked questions that seemed irrelevant, and it was unclear what they were looking for. It was quite an experience. No wonder they get negative reviews from customers. Go through the interview and you'll see.
