First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Safe Horizon.
Crime Victim Advocate
There are usually two interviews. The interview isn't too bad, but the managers do appear a bit judgmental and seem to ask questions to assess your knowledge and how you handle conflict. If you get hired and are lucky enough to get a good manager, your experience will be great. Experiences vary for everyone depending on their placement with different supervisors, programs, or precincts.
- How do you promote diversity?
Research and Evaluation Associate
So I had this phone interview first with like two associates and they were really nice, super friendly. Then I had a panel interview with the research team, and they sent me some datasets to prepare a presentation on. Everyone I met at Safe Horizon was great, really nice people. I was told there was one more round with the Director of Research and someone higher up, but I didn't make it that far. They basically told me they went with an internal candidate, even though I was a strong applicant. So if you're not already working there, just know they might favor internal people.
- How would you integrate a client-centered and anti-racist perspective into your research and evaluation tasks?
Research and Evaluation
It's a three step process. First, a 30 minute phone interview, which was a nice, casual conversation. They asked me to answer questions first, then they explained the job. Then, there was an in-person interview with the department staff, and finally, an in-person interview with the directors. The phone interview didn't have many situational questions, but more technical and skills-based ones.
- What is your response to the question "why didn't she just leave her abuser?"
- In what ways can Safe Horizon combat racism within its operations?
- What are the key elements for successfully conducting a program evaluation?
Clinical Forensic Specialist
The interview began with the interviewer asking about my background and my interest in Safe Horizon. They then provided details about the role and the location, which took about an hour. I had a second interview on the same day because I was going to be out of the country. This second interview also asked why I chose this position and company. The office seemed like a good place to work, but the salary offered was too low and not negotiable.
- What do you anticipate being the most challenging aspect of this role?
