Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ryan's.
Server
Applied online for a server position that said no experience was needed. Got called quickly for an interview. Arrived 5 minutes early but had to wait about 15 minutes for the manager, even though she was told I was there twice. She didn't even look at my resume. Within 5 minutes, she asked about my experience. I told her I didn't have any, and before I could mention the online job posting stating no experience was required, she cut me off, saying I was wasting her time. When I asked her to repeat herself, she said again that I was wasting both our time because I lacked experience and she doubted my ability to do the job. She then ended the interview by saying thanks and walking away.
- What relevant experience do you have for this role?
Server
The process involved checking availability, travel accommodations, video guidelines, help resources, and tax registration. It was an easy and straightforward process without much hassle. Overall, it was an interesting yet intuitive approach to redefining the interview process.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
Server
Applied online and got a call the same day for an interview the next day. Arrived 5 minutes early and was asked to wait for the Manager. After 10-15 minutes, the Manager came out, asked who I was, even though some employees had mentioned I was there. It was clear the Manager didn't even look at my application. Upon learning I had no prior server experience, the Manager stated she had other interviews and didn't want to waste time on someone without experience, despite the job posting not requiring it. She then said she had to hire someone more experienced and that I wasn't the one. I've never been told in an interview that I was wasting their time or not worth it. It seemed like the Manager didn't even want to conduct interviews from the moment she came out. Additionally, a stack of applications was left on a table where anyone could see them, which isn't a good practice.
- Can you tell me about your experience in the restaurant industry?
- What makes you a suitable candidate for our team?
