Manager
I applied online and heard back from the recruiter the next day. They were really impressed with my background and thought I'd be a good fit. Then, I had a second round with the direct hiring manager. This guy was super arrogant, acted like a drill sergeant, and basically said the job is tough and requires over 50+ hours a week, more during peak season. It left a terrible first impression. Honestly, I wasn't desperate, but after meeting him, I decided against the opportunity. A little advice for upper management: be humble, actually get to know the candidate, ask about their team management skills, and really listen to their answers and success stories instead of just trying to be tough and make the interview difficult. It really turned me off, so I declined the next interview. Good luck to them.
- What are your reasons for leaving your current job?
- Could you describe your approach to management?
- Tell me about a time you dealt with conflict.
Software Engineer
I interviewed for an Angular Developer role. There were 3 rounds in total: 2 technical rounds and 1 face-to-face with the Director. I was approached by a 3rd party recruiter. I cleared all rounds, but an offer wasn't released because they were looking for someone with a shorter notice period. It felt like a waste of time as they interviewed many people and only extended offers to candidates with lower compensation expectations.
- Can you answer some basic Javascript questions based on console output?
- Explain the Angular Architecture.
- How do different module types work?
Carrier Sales Specialist
Applied online and went through 4 interviews over 2 months for an entry-level position. First was a phone call, second a video conference. Third and fourth were in-person interviews in the office with different managers. All this to get a generic email saying they proceeded with other candidates. The same positions kept getting posted for weeks for the same office. Even applied through a third-party recruiter, passed the first phone interview and scheduled a video conference with the team, but 30 minutes before the interview, they cancelled saying I had already been interviewed and proceeded with other candidates.
- Can you share an instance where you had to handle a challenging client?
Specialist, Contracts
A recruiter reached out and set up my first meeting with the Director of Compliance. We had a good talk; they shared company history and role details, and mentioned my skills were a great fit. The Director then scheduled my next interview with the Manager. Three days later, I met with the Manager for the second round. She gave a more detailed overview of the day-to-day tasks. Both interviews were pretty conversational, with questions interspersed, and I got to highlight how my background aligned with the job.
- In what ways would your Supervisor and VP characterize you?
- Can you describe your current workplace?
- Are you better at working solo or as part of a team?
