HR reached out to me since they saw my resume online. I had a good chat with the recruiter on the phone, and then they set me up to interview with the District Manager. I met the DM in person at the store I would be managing. She asked me about my past jobs. After that, I had an interview with the Regional Director. This interview was over the phone because the RD was not local. I did get to meet her in person before they made the job offer. The interviews were pretty standard for retail, covering how to manage a store and your leadership approach. They really focused on customer service, but once I started, it was clear that getting tasks done was the main thing.

So I applied for this job and my experience with Rue 21 was a complete waste of time for both me and them. The interviews were never on time and kept getting rescheduled, which took weeks to even get a follow-up on. The first interview I had scheduled was completely forgotten, and then a recruiter contacted me who didn't even know I had applied for this specific job. There was zero communication between the higher-ups. They never followed up about the next steps in the hiring process, even though it seemed like they had already decided to hire me. Their lack of professionalism really makes me wonder how this company is still in business.

I interviewed with the District Manager and the Regional Director. All candidates for management roles need to be approved by a hiring committee before an offer can be made. This whole process can take a few weeks, which might deter some people. The interview itself is pretty typical for this industry. They want to see your retail background, specifically in apparel. They also rightly focus on hiring people who know how to manage the financial aspects of the business.
