After two and a half months of interviews—five rounds total—plus an in-person skills test that I completed with ease in under 50 minutes (I've done these many times before), it all ended with a rejection. I brought fresh ideas to the table that no one on the executive team had even considered, thanks to nearly a decade of experience in this field. I rearranged my life, waking up my cousin early to watch my son for the hours I spent traveling, paying for transportation costs, and sending follow-up thank you notes after every round. This experience was exhausting and frustrating, especially after my fiancée and I have been actively job hunting for over a year.

There were several interviews, starting with HR and then moving up through the management levels. Many of the interviews had multiple team members present, and it felt like everyone on the team had a say. Even people who would be my peers were involved in the initial stages.

It was a two-hour exam, and they gave extra time if needed. Then there were a couple of interviews with some people from the team I would join. Everyone I met was really nice and professional. They asked general and scenario-based questions.

The first interview was a phone call with a young HR person. They talked about salary for about 2-3 minutes and then offered me a time to come in. When I got there, I had to take a simple spelling test of a press release. After that, I met with a mid-level HR person. They asked me basic questions like why I liked PR, why I liked Rubenstein, and about my talents. They also mentioned they check references. The office environment felt old-fashioned, with everyone in suits and older executives with young assistants.
