Assistant
First, they'll look at your application to see if you've got the stuff like being organized, communicating well, and knowing your way around software. Then, a quick phone call to check if you're still keen, when you can start, and if you generally fit the bill. After that, it's an in-person or video chat where they'll dig deeper into how you handle juggling tasks, solving problems, keeping things private, and using programs like Microsoft Office or managing schedules. They might throw in a skills test too, like asking you to write an email, do some data entry, schedule something, or use Excel/Word. Finally, you'll meet with the main boss to see if you're a good team fit and to iron out any final details. If all goes well, they'll offer you the job, possibly after checking your references or doing a background check.
- Can you explain how you manage prioritizing tasks when assisting multiple individuals concurrently?
Research Assistant
So after I sent in my CV and Cover Letter, they had me answer some Key Selection Criteria questions via email. Then, I got invited to an interview, which was a panel interview. The panel consisted of the two research group heads, their admin/HR/secretary coordinator, and a research partner who joined remotely from Adelaide.
- Could you start by introducing yourself?
- Can you provide more details about your past work experience that is relevant to this role?
- What are your thoughts on technical questions related to this position?
Student Advice Officer
The whole interview process took about 1.5 months. I got an interview invitation and had the interview 3 weeks after the advertisement closed. I received an offer another week later. The interview was held online with 3 people on the panel. It felt like a conversation, and they asked about 5-7 behavioural questions that related to the key selection criteria. Everyone seemed friendly and easy-going.
- In your opinion, what constitutes good customer service?
- What are your thoughts on performing repetitive tasks?
- How would you adapt to new technologies or systems?
Student Engagement Coordinator
The interview process was pretty standard, using the STAR method in a panel of 3 people. It was in person, but they mentioned an online option is available too. They seem to look for new ideas from other universities and then hire internal candidates anyway. One of the programs I suggested was actually implemented by the Student Experience team, which made me feel like they were seeking free advice. The talent acquisition person was also unresponsive and missed deadlines, for example, saying they'd give an update by Monday 5 pm but I still hadn't heard back by Friday.
- What programs would you propose for the Engagement team specifically for international students?
- Can you describe a situation where you disagreed with a coworker?
