Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rowan University.
Staff Assistant
I applied for two jobs, one last year and one recently. Both times, the call for an interview didn't come until 4 weeks after applying. The first time, the panel was nice but ghosted me after thank you emails, and I eventually got a generic rejection email a month later. The recent application's phone interview left me feeling weird. They seemed uninterested and robotic, asked nothing about my resume, and just repeated the same questions. It was strange, especially since the secretary seemed flustered when I scheduled it and never sent a confirmation. I did get a call for an in-person interview the next day, but I declined it.
- Can you tell me about your experience writing letters?
- What motivated you to apply for this role?
- What qualifications do you bring to this position?
Office Assistant
I applied online and then was invited for two in-person interviews. Both interviews felt really good and I was told I'd hear back within two weeks. I sent thank you notes after each interview. After two weeks passed with no word, I sent two follow-up emails. Unfortunately, I never received any response at all, not even a simple heads-up that they were still considering candidates or were just busy. It's pretty unprofessional, especially when you ask someone to come in for not one, but two interviews. It's only polite to at least get back to people, given the time and effort it takes to prep for interviews. Also, when someone asks about preferred work hours for the role, just answer that question. Don't jump to conclusions about them wanting remote work or flexible schedules because that's way too presumptive. This whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth about the department and I don't have a good impression of them anymore.
- What's your approach to working with doctors?
Office Assistant
The interview was fun, the interviewer was fantastic. You need a resume. Some soft skills and technical skills like excel and google sheets are suggested.
- Do you have experience with Excel and Google Sheets?
