Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ross Stores.
Sales Associate
When you get there, they let you wait in the break room before the interview, which is nice so you aren't just loitering in the store. Once you get into the back, you meet with the Store Manager or an assistant manager. It feels rushed, like they don't have dedicated time for interviews and are trying to get through candidates quickly.
- Can you tell me about your availability?
- Is working on nights and weekends a problem for you?
Sales Associate
A few days after applying, I got a call for an interview. When I got there, I was told to wait. The hiring manager had forgotten about my interview, but I still got interviewed after a wait. The interview was straightforward; the manager asked a few simple questions, described the job, and I handed over my resume. I thought I'd nailed it, but a week later, I got an email saying I didn't get the job. Ironically, I later went shopping there and saw they were doing same-day interviews. I guess they haven't learned that beggars can't be choosers.
- Can you handle working in stressful situations or environments?
Sales Associate
The interview was pretty disorganized, the staff seemed unsure about the role and kept mentioning miscommunication from higher up. They stressed how important speed is and made it clear the pay wouldn't go above $15/hr. Some questions were confusing, like asking what 'A' means in your life, but expecting answers related to work, not personal life. The whole vibe felt stressful, suggesting a very hectic work environment. Thinking about what they said, I realized this job wasn't the right fit for me.
- What is the significance of urgency in your life?
- What does the letter 'A' symbolize for you personally?
