First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ropes & Gray.
Paralegal
I applied when the applications opened in mid-February and got an email for the phone screening in early March. The screening was 30 minutes long and involved general personality questions, including 1-2 behavioral questions. I haven't heard back yet.
- Could you introduce yourself and explain your motivation for this position?
- Can you share an example of a time you had to juggle several tasks at once?
Paralegal
The entire hiring process was pretty seamless, wrapping up in exactly a month from initial contact to the final offer. Everyone I interacted with was really nice, chill, and professional. They did a great job keeping me in the loop about what was coming next. It started with a phone chat, then I went in for in-person interviews with seven people from the team I was applying to. Following that, I had a final meeting with some of the partners and attorneys. I got the offer about a week after that last interview. It seemed like they really prioritized finding someone who'd be a good fit personality-wise.
- Would you prefer to submit a project on time but unfinished, or submit it late but completed?
Litigation Paralegal
I applied through the firm's webpage. A few days later, I had a phone interview screen with HR. A week after that, I interviewed in person at the firm with two paralegals, the supervisor, and the manager. It all felt very impersonal and rushed; they immediately started asking questions. All of their questions were focused on potential failures rather than how you've succeeded in teams. Their attitudes really put me off from wanting to work there, regardless of whether they offered me the job.
- Can you share an instance where you contributed to a team failure?
- What are your thoughts on voicing disagreement with your supervisor?
- Imagine a scenario involving a deadline submission - tell us about it.
