4 words. My time was wasted. My resume never showed I had direct experience working as a field dispatcher and from the very first phone call with the recruiter, I advised that I have no direct experience but that my experience in account management and working in hospitality and real estate could help because I have worked with those of similar roles as a field dispatcher. The first interview was just a screen call with a recruiter. The 2nd interview was with a team lead who I would have reported to if I’ve gotten the job. He was super nice and asked questions about my knowledge of Roofstock and asked scenario based interview questions. I got moved to the 3rd round which consisted of 2 people, a Team Lead for the field dispatcher role and someone more on the operations side. Well it started off good, but then they threw me off by sharing their screen and asked how I would dispatch a maintenance man to handle various tasks. I answered to the best of my ability but once again, they knew I never had direct experience doing this. Anyways, the tone of the interview changed and they asked if I had any questions. I thought it was weird because the interview was set for 45 minutes but we were done after 20…. And the guy on the interview didn’t even ask one question. So yeah. Ended up receiving an email 3 days later that I wasn’t considered because they wanted people more closely aligned with the role. So why waste my time and have me go through all of that?

I had an interview with Roofstock, which was quite interesting. It started with a phone call to learn about my background and interests. Then, I talked with team members from operations and marketing, depending on the role. They focused on my problem-solving skills and adaptability. They also really cared about culture fit, so it wasn't just about my experience, but also how we aligned on vision and values. It felt more like a chat than a formal interview.

Heard back from the recruiter about a week after applying. The first step was a recruiter phone screen. They got back to me in 3 days after talking with the hiring manager. Then I had a 45-minute interview with the Hiring Manager. The next steps mentioned were interviews with the Engineering team (3 to 4 people) and Executive leadership, but I haven't heard back yet.

The interview journey started with a recruiter chat about the company and the position, followed by a screening with the hiring manager. After that, there were two technical interviews, one behavioral interview, and a mixed interview with a technical lead. The interviews felt relaxed, with ample time for questions, and they focused on conceptual understanding. Technical interviews assessed theoretical foundations and the ability to write Python functions, including interpreting technical results. Discussions with the team lead and others focused on technical work, processes, and situational questions, which should be manageable for any professional. Post-technical rounds, senior leadership sign-offs involved more conversational interviews, offering a chance to engage and ask questions. It was a positive experience overall, with communicative interviewers who clarified doubts. Some preparation for the coding challenge and basic data science libraries might be needed, but helpful hints were given when I was stuck.
