Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Roofr.
Software Engineer
The interview process was super efficient and professional. It started with an HR intro call, then a take-home assignment. After that, I had a code review of my assignment with a tech lead. Finally, there was a panel interview with senior leads and the director. They kept me updated with follow-up emails the next business day after each stage. The tasks assessed workplace skills broadly, not just coding or system design. They also gave me ample time to consider the offer, which was great given the job market.
- Discuss projects and experiences from your resume.
- Address senior-level front-end topics, focusing on performance and scalability.
- Respond to workplace behavioral questions.
Senior Software Engineer
My personal opinion is screening + 2 interviews is max. If you need like 5 rounds you have no idea how to hire people. This three-stage process is considered reasonable by many candidates and employers, as it allows for a comprehensive evaluation of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and cultural fit. Having more than three or four rounds of interviews can be seen as excessive and may indicate a lack of organization or clear hiring criteria within the company. It can also lead to candidate fatigue and potentially deter top talent from pursuing the opportunity.
- A coding challenge was given
- A code review was conducted
- The task was to design a hotel booking system
Software Engineer
I went through 4 interviews. First, a quick chat with the recruiters to go over what to expect. Then, I met with the hiring manager who wanted to get a feel for me as a candidate, focusing on fit and my experience. The last two interviews were technical: a coding challenge and an architecture interview. Both were tough but felt like a good test of my skills.
- The technical questions were mainly about architecture, and there was also a pair programming session.
- We did a hands-on coding exercise.
- There were technical questions focused on system architecture.
