Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rolls-Royce.
Graduate Engineer
The interview process had three parts: a case study, a presentation I had to prep beforehand, and a standard interview. The whole thing flowed well and gave me different ways to show what I could do. It felt thorough and well-structured. I thought the case study was fair, and I liked getting to present something I'd researched myself. The interviewers were really welcoming, and they answered all my questions about the role and company culture, making it feel like a proper two-way chat. It was also cool to meet the other candidates online. It was good to see who else was going for the role and didn't feel competitive, more like getting a preview of potential teammates. The whole experience felt very professional and thoughtful. You can tell they put effort into their recruitment process, which says good things about how they treat their graduates once you're there. I learned a lot about the company and came away feeling more confident about what I want in my career. Would recommend applying if you're considering it - the process itself is worthwhile.

Graduate Engineer
The assessment centre was a really good experience; the assessors made me feel more relaxed and tried to have a normal conversation. It consisted of a presentation, an interview, and a case study. The interview questions were provided beforehand, which was really helpful. The case study was pretty straightforward, just requiring logical thinking. Presentation questions were basic and not too specific, like asking what I learned from the experience.
- Can you explain your interest in Rolls-Royce and outline how you are a suitable candidate for this position?
- What key takeaways did you gain from this experience?
Graduate Engineer
The application included motivational and competency questions, followed by online tests. The assessment centre involved a group task, a presentation, a competency interview, and a technical interview. Communication before the assessment centre was excellent. However, the treatment after the assessment centre was awful. They claim to provide feedback within 48 hours, which did not happen. I waited a few weeks for a standard rejection email and still haven't received any feedback on why I wasn't selected. My perception of the company has changed significantly due to how potential employees are treated. I hope this isn't a common practice at Rolls, as applicants invest significant time and effort into their applications and interview preparation.
- What are your thoughts on the company?
- Demonstrate your ability to apply fundamental engineering principles.
