Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rocket Lawyer.
Software Engineer
Had an HR call first, then a LeetCode-style coding challenge. After that, there was a hiring manager call, followed by an onsite with 3-4 rounds. We discussed my past experience, with a focus on data structures. The system design part was tough. It was a standard interview process overall, not too difficult but required a lot of practice.
- Can you explain min heap and how to optimize conditions related to it?
Software Engineer
Had an HR interview that went well. Then I had an interview with a Staff engineer from the squad. The interview was fine, I answered all the questions properly because I knew the answers. The only exception was an open-ended/subjective question, the kind where the answer depends on the scenario. In the end, I just got a weak reply by email saying they weren't moving forward. I asked for more information about why I wasn't moving forward so I could improve any weak points, but they ignored me. Terrible experience, it was just a waste of time, and from what I've seen, the company keeps hiring and people leave this role directly, I think something is wrong.
- Direct questions about coding using Java, Spring, design patterns, and system architecture.
- Open-ended/subjective questions that depend on the scenario.
Software Engineer Intern
The interview process started with a recruiter call to go over my background and interests. After that, I had to complete the Criteria assessment, which tested my behavioral, logic, and problem-solving skills. The next step was a hiring manager interview that was mainly behavioral with some technical aspects. Finally, there was a technical interview where I had to solve a coding problem and answer some other technical questions.
