Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rocket Fuel.
Account Manager
I applied for this role through a referral and got a call from the recruiter about two months later. After that, things moved really fast and I had an in-person interview within 10 days. The in-person interview consisted of four separate 30-minute 1:1 meetings. Most of these were behavioral, but one focused on my understanding of the ad tech world. It was tough but a good chance to show what I could do and learn from the smart people there. They ended up going with someone who had more direct experience, which made sense for the job. Even though I didn't get an offer, the team at Rocket Fuel was super smart and helpful all the way through.
- What draws you to Rocket Fuel?
- How do your past experiences align with the responsibilities of a project manager?
Account Manager
I went through multiple phone interviews and then several in-person interviews. I met with 4 people during the in-person part. The questions were abstract, focusing more on thinking process than direct knowledge. They contacted all 4 of my references and asked detailed questions. I was offered the job and accepted, filling out a lot of HR paperwork. I disclosed a prior criminal conviction honestly on my application, which I filled out after signing the offer letter. Despite this, they hired me and I started working before looking at my paperwork or running a background check, firing me after two weeks. This is bad business practice, especially since I turned down other offers. They should have checked my paperwork before I started.
- How would you handle a situation where you need to provide immediate answers for a client, but your manager is not available?
Account Manager
I applied online and heard back from HR a few weeks later. It took a bit to schedule because I was on vacation and then the hiring team was at an offsite. I ended up having four back-to-back 1-on-1 interviews at their office. Three of them were pretty standard, talking about my skills, experience, and the company. One interview with someone from product was a bit unexpected, as they asked for really specific details about how their technology works, even though I told them I didn't have much experience with it or the industry. I thought the company seemed good overall, but it's been over a month since the interviews and I haven't heard anything back. I'm guessing I didn't get it, and it probably wasn't the best fit without industry experience, but it would have been nice to get an update.
