First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Robin AI.
Machine Learning Engineer
I applied online, and a recruiter got in touch for an initial chat. The plan was: 1. A technical discussion with domain-specific questions, 2. A take-home assignment, 3. A review of the take-home task, and 4. A final HR check. Unfortunately, I didn't make it past the technical chat. The questions covered ML, MLOps, and backend general knowledge. While I get asking about different areas, some felt like they were testing textbook knowledge rather than practical skills, like asking about the CAP theorem to someone without a CS background. It felt a bit much, like they were screening for three different jobs at once. The interviewer was really good though, very knowledgeable and a nice guy. Hope they find the right person.
- How to handle model overfitting?
- What's the distinction between processing and threading?
- Can you explain the CAP theorem?
Talent Acquisition Specialist
I was contacted by the Recruiter for the first screening stage. Robin AI's career page says they use the STAR method, but the questions were just about my monthly role fills and daily interviews. As a Recruiter, I know these numbers depend on role level and company structure, so they show the candidate's environment more than their attitude. The Recruiter was polite but seemed rushed, and while feedback was quick, it was generic. This wasn't a great experience because I think the Recruiter interaction is vital for understanding company culture. I felt I wouldn't want to work there because it doesn't seem to value people, and there was no human connection.
- What is the volume of roles you fill on a monthly basis?
- Could you share the number of interviews you conduct weekly?
Senior Legal Specialist
Applied for the Senior Legal Specialist role and got a reply after 3 weeks via email from talent. They sent a link to schedule and asked to confirm availability. Had a 30-minute initial interview via Teams with a professional, nice, and friendly recruiter. She asked some questions and explained the process: after this round, an NDA will be sent for review (90 mins), then two senior members will go over the contract with me and ask technical questions. The final round will be in person. Currently waiting for the NDA.
- Can you tell me what you know about our organization?
- What can you tell me about Robin's products and services?
- Could you introduce yourself?
Senior Frontend Engineer
Started with a recruiter call where we chatted about the company, product, and my background. It went well and I got to the next stage. Next up was a coding interview, which had an interesting format: I got access to a GitHub repo 15 minutes before the call to clone, set up, and get familiar with the task. The engineers introduced themselves briefly, then left me to work on the task solo for 45 minutes. They came back after 45 minutes and we discussed my solution, followed by a general Q&A. The technical part was well-designed. So far, the candidate experience was fine. But then after waiting 5 days, I emailed the recruiter for feedback. I quickly got a generic response saying I wasn't successful. I replied thanking them and asking for specific feedback to help me improve, but never heard back. Good feedback is important, and Robin AI really dropped the ball here, which is a shame given their strong culture promotion.
