First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Riverfront Marketing.
Account Manager
I applied for a job at Riverfront Marketing a few days ago and was contacted quickly by an administrator. They answered my questions and told me I would learn more about the position in a preliminary interview. I liked that they got to know me personally, unlike other places I applied to. I was invited back for a follow-up interview where I got to see what the job really involved. This was different from other jobs I've interviewed for where I was put in a room with many others. I shadowed one of the top account executives and asked a lot of questions. That evening, I was surprisingly offered the position and start next Monday. I'm excited to begin this new career where I will learn every day. I'll write again after my first 6 months.
- What was something not on my resume that made me stand out unrelated to work?
Account Manager
It was a 3 step interview process with a really quick first interview and a full day shadow interview going over compensation and career path opportunities. It was a lot different than other interviews. It almost felt like I was just spending the day with this employee. They took me around showing me how they do their business to business sales, all face to face. I was a bit surprised to see how everyone was so nice.
- Show me your communication skills by talking to customers while they are filling out paperwork or doing a sale.
- What would make you the best option for the position?
Account Manager
Shortly into my second interview, I was told it wasn't a pyramid scheme, which immediately made me suspicious. The role seemed more focused on team development than sales, and the interviewer appeared nervous. Despite a bad vibe, the company culture seemed team-oriented, with a practice of bringing in many new hires to help existing team members gain experience in "growing the team." I shared my concerns, and the owner told me, "We don't hire salespeople, we create them," which was odd given my resume was almost entirely sales experience. I wondered if it was a "Boiler room" situation or just an opportunity for a beginner to get team-building experience. When I provided feedback on my exit report, honestly stating my concerns about the company potentially taking advantage of sales newcomers, the owner personally called me in to reject me for "character" issues. It's confusing whether I reacted too quickly based on a team member's explanation of the company structure and their reassurance it wasn't a pyramid scheme, or if my character is genuinely flawed, leading a company that supposedly "doesn't hire salespeople" to schedule three in-person interviews for a sales position for someone with only sales experience.
