First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Riverbed Technology.
Sales Engineer
First up was a chat with an SE manager to get a feel for who you are and why you're keen on the role. After that, you dive into a technical competency interview. This involves answering technical questions and detailing the 'how' and 'why' behind them, or sometimes discussing past experiences and career stories. Finally, there's a panel interview where you'll present to a group of senior managers.
- Can you describe a standard client engagement, including the questions you'd pose and how you'd support the sales executive?
Sales Engineer
The interview process dragged on for quite a bit. After about six interviews, which included two in-person meetings, I decided to stop pursuing it. I felt the process was disorganized, sometimes rushed, and frankly, a bit silly. I was interviewing with other companies and ended up accepting a role elsewhere. My personal rule is a maximum of three interviews unless there's a clear reason for more.
- Some questions about load balancing and tracing a TCP handshake were asked.
Sales Engineer
I interviewed for a Sales Engineer role in November 2011. The initial phone interview went well, and they indicated they wanted to proceed to an on-site interview. However, after a two-month wait, I followed up in early January 2012, only to be informed that the position had been put on hold.
- Can you describe what an application looks like?
