The recruiter reached out on LinkedIn. The whole thing was pretty fast, only about two weeks, not drawn out at all. I talked to people from different parts of the company. It was a good experience overall. The recruiter was super helpful and kept in touch the whole time, answering my questions and guiding me.

First, I had a phone interview that went pretty well. Then, I moved on to a technical interview. This second interview was a tough technical grilling, really digging into the specifics of the TCP connection process. It felt like you'd need to be doing deep packet analysis to ace it. They asked questions that sounded simple but wanted very precise answers, like how a PC connects to a web server. I'm not sure a typical network engineer would be into this job unless they're constantly analyzing PCAPs and logs.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • Can you describe the function of the TCP push flag?
  • Walk me through the process of how your computer establishes a connection with a web server online.
  • Tell me about troubleshooting and using telnet to connect to an application on a specific port.

Started with an HR call for basic motivation and fit. Then, a combined HR and technical interview with the EMEA Support Head, where they shared a lot about the company and culture, and asked about my past work, responsibilities, strengths, and weaknesses. They also threw in about 5-10 basic Linux and Networking questions. After that, another HR interview with the hiring manager, similar to the last one but with hardly any technical stuff. Then, a Technical Panel Interview over the phone and a remote session, where they presented various scenarios: Linux boot issues, DNS performance analysis using strace, parsing log files with sed, configuring IP forwarding and SSL certificates, diagnosing TCP resets and lost packets in LAN traces, and TCP handshake questions. Finally, an in-office Team Fit interview, just meeting the team and chatting about the culture.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Can you analyze an FTP LAN trace, detailing the differences between Active and Passive modes?
