First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at River Island.
Retail Assistant
I got an email about an online interview and had 5 days to finish it. It had 6 questions about me, my thoughts on the company, and my availability.
- Can you tell me about yourself and why you'd be a good fit?
- What's your understanding of our business?
- How would you handle a specific situation?
Retail Assistant
The interview was pretty straightforward, mostly situational tasks, asking about my previous experience, and my personality. They also asked why I was interested in River Island. It was an online video interview that lasted about 30 minutes. The questions were mainly personality-based.
- Can you tell me about a time you witnessed great customer service, and a time you witnessed poor customer service?
Retail Assistant
I applied online and got an interview invitation a few days later. The interview was mostly a group session, about an hour long. We started in a small room with an icebreaker and questions about my availability and desired hours. Then, we were paired up to select an outfit for an imaginary customer and present it back, including details about the style and occasion. For instance, one pair impressed the interviewers by styling outfits for both a woman attending a christening and her child. After that, they asked typical customer service and problem-solving questions. I was told I'd hear back the following week, but I received an email before I even got home stating I was unsuccessful. I find group interviews a bit unfair because you can't fully express your ideas, as someone else might have already said something similar. It also felt like if they decided on someone early on, the others didn't get a fair shot.
- Can you share an instance where you received excellent customer service and describe how it was delivered?
- How would you personally ensure a customer receives good service?
