Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rio Tinto.
Analyst
The interview process will involve competency-based questions and an assessment of your knowledge about the company. It's best to prepare examples and have some questions ready for the role and culture. Using the STAR method is recommended. The interviewers are not trying to trick you.
- What qualifies you for this position?
Analyst
The HR didn't follow up after the interview, which was unprofessional. The salary package was also not competitive. The HR sent a test which I don't think is a good way to test a candidate's ability. The interviewer for their third-party due diligence didn't seem well-experienced and asked very basic questions.
- What KYC tools have you used in the past?
Industry Analyst
We started with a phone interview to narrow down the initial pool of applicants. Next, there was a 1:1 interview focused on competencies, involving several managers from the relevant department. After that, more competency-based interviews were conducted with managers from other related teams, focusing on industry knowledge and analytical depth. The whole process took about 2 hours.
- Can you describe how you would handle macroeconomic scenarios?
- How do you perform asset analysis?
