& Process

The first step was a 1-hour online coding challenge, mostly focused on Pandas and SQL. After that, there was a 7-month gap before the second round, which was a 1-hour panel interview with the exec team. One interviewer was really nice, but the other one kept mocking my answers and laughing at me. The questions they asked didn't seem relevant and didn't really have correct answers, which was super demotivating and felt like hell for the whole hour.

The process took about a month and included 4 technical interviews. They kept rescheduling and had different interviewers show up than planned. The last interview was unexpectedly split over two days. They kept saying I was doing well throughout. After what should have been the final interview (but got split, with some directors not available until the next week), HR emailed saying they really wanted me, that I did great and to bring the same energy to the next call, and that the HR Manager would reach out about compensation, benefits, and onboarding. In the very last interview, a director I wouldn't work with asked odd questions, like asking me to sort a list of tuples in Python and rejecting my lambda function answer, saying he wanted me to import and use a specific library. He was also disappointed I used the default activation function for a neural network project on my resume. This was the first person at Rhombus who seemed disappointed. They didn't hire me. It felt like a waste of time with unprofessional last-minute changes and false hope, which just shows they don't know what they're doing.

So I had four interviews in total. The first one was a phone call where I introduced myself and answered some basic data science questions. Then I had a take-home coding challenge to do within 48 hours. After that, I had to present my take-home challenge to the interviewer. The final round was an on-site interview where I had to solve coding problems on a whiteboard.
