Associate Consultant
It was a really smooth process. I got to chat with various team members and they were upfront about what the job entails at RGP. The team was welcoming and gave a good overview of what it's like to be a consultant here.

Change Management Consultant
The interview process began with a phone interview and was followed by an in-person meeting at their Regional Headquarters in downtown LA. The overall atmosphere of the process is described as collaborative and positive. It feels like an executive temp agency where they're seeking consultants for temporary roles within client companies, or for advisory positions on long-term projects. Their focus is on identifying qualified candidates rather than filtering them out. I appreciate that this firm exclusively hires senior professionals, expecting them to bring their own established resources and practices instead of relying on a generic approach. It's also appealing that they prioritize hands-on work over the 'publish or perish' mentality often seen in larger firms. They value professionals who actually do the work, not just sell it. Hiring is based on project availability, and as one engagement ends, they find another project to ensure continued employment. The in-person interview requires presenting a portfolio of relevant work, including developed tools, evidence, written documentation, and applied models. This presentation is strictly limited to 30 minutes. I organized my digital portfolio with clearly labeled folders and files for immediate access in response to prompted or requested areas. They were receptive and discussed a potential project they didn't secure. I'm uncertain about future work with them, as organizational development seems to be a developing area for them, not a core focus. Also, some of my experience doesn't quite match their needs, and some of their requirements are not my strongest suits. It's important to note that there's an additional step after a suitable project is identified. They present you to the client alongside other candidates. Depending on your profile, this could position RGP more in the 'speculative' category. That's something to keep in mind. I'm continuing my job search elsewhere.

Management Consultant
Unlike Big4, you aren't hired into a 'salaried' talent pool; instead, you're unpaid while on the bench. RGP needs extra lead time to 'on board' first-time hires, which is less ideal for clients needing to fill a position quickly. Also, candidates with prior RGP contracts get preference, so new candidates need extra patience and unpaid time off before being hired. The interview was quick and the mood stayed positive, but it wasn't very in-depth. The interviewer's questions weren't specific and only verified the candidate's background at a high level. A good portion of the interview focused on 'selling' RGP as a good place to work. When I asked RGP how the discussed experience would be 'useful' with RGP's typical clients, the answers were quite general. I felt RGP didn't ask the right questions to know me, so RGP isn't equipped to properly represent me with a potential client. It was good that I was prepared for the 'wait,' but what followed was three months of silence. No updates, no results, no follow-up, and zero response to emails and phone messages I left. Overall, it was a very negative experience. In retrospect, I felt that IT/Technology consulting isn't a mature practice at RGP, and positions are 'hit or miss.' While advertised as a Big4 alternative, RGP isn't about 'consulting/solutions'; rather, it's an agency to place 'experienced staff' with companies that are small or can't afford Big4.
