Consultant
My interview process was actually pretty smooth. I was first contacted by an HR Manager on LinkedIn. Then I had a chat with an HR employee, followed by an interview with that same HR Manager. After I was accepted, I was shown a list of clients and got to pick which ones I wanted to interview with to see if I’d be a good fit for their projects. I passed on the first client but interviewed with the second, and that’s the one I ended up working with for 3 years.
- Can you tell me about your reasons for leaving your last job?
- What were your specific career goals for your next position?
Senior Consultant
I had a quick phone chat first, then went in for an in-person interview with the HR Director. Near the end, the Client Delivery Director joined for about 20 minutes. The conversation was about my past projects. The Director's attitude seemed a bit off, like she was trying to talk down my experience to justify a lower offer. She mentioned I'd get an online application to complete and that a background check is part of their process.
- Tell me about your past assignments.

You're hired for projects on a contract basis, paid as a W-2 employee, with rare opportunities for time-and-a-half pay. You'll interview directly with the Client Services Director and the client for each project. Keep in mind that project assignment depends on the director's and client's discretion, so you might not get to work even if you're available. This company should be seen as a place for temporary/contract work. Their local offices have lower hourly rates than the Big 4, so they won't pay for flights to other cities to keep you on billable projects. Their business model doesn't support hotel stays or flights. If you live far from their local offices, they won't cover your flight to interview.
- It took a while to get a clear understanding of how the company operates, so I need to confirm: if you have bills to pay monthly, and your mortgage and utility companies don't accept payment based on when you work projects, can you actually work here unless you're retired or have other income?
- When job postings appear in the market, they seem like real jobs, but then it turns out they are temporary roles. Can you clarify this?
