Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Reynolds American.
Relationship Manager
First, I had a phone screen with a recruiter, then a phone screen with the hiring manager. After that, there was a panel interview where I met with two groups of two people each. Sometimes, there's a secondary follow-up interview with the hiring manager. Finally, they either extend an offer or it's a decline.
- Can you describe how you would respond in certain hypothetical situations?
Manager

- Why are you interested in the tobacco industry?
Management Trainee
The whole process took around 2 months. It started with a pymetrics assessment, followed by an HR interview. The final round consisted of two back-to-back hour-long interviews with a VP and a manager. The initial phone call with the recruiter was pretty informal, lasting about 30 minutes. However, the final round was more intense, featuring about 12-15 behavioral questions in total. Apparently, if you make it to the final round, they already see you as qualified and are mainly assessing your culture fit. Compared to more technical interviews, it wasn't too bad, though it was still one of the more challenging behavioral interviews I've experienced. Just be sure to have plenty of experiences ready to discuss and link them to the values Reynolds/BAT looks for. One of the VPs even advised me before our interview to 'make sure to answer every question with a story.' So, definitely use the STAR method and focus on the results.
- How do you manage your priorities?
- What keeps you going when facing a difficult challenge?
- What's your motivation for applying to this global graduate program and specifically to Reynolds?
