First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Retool.
Technical Account Manager
Had 2 rounds and a final round virtual onsite! First round was a screener with the hiring manager, had a take home presentation and then another call with the recruiter before the final round. Final round was 5 interviews. A culture fit, technical round using the product live, speaking with another TAM to discuss how you deal with churn, a VP to understand how you work alongside pre-sales and finally with your skip. There were a few last minute reschedules. All of the interviews were great except the skip who wasn't really paying attention and seemed uninterested in interviewing.
- Tell me about your past experience managing churn.
- What strategies would you suggest to increase product adoption?
Technical Account Manager
The interview process was smooth and well-organized. The team kept me updated and informed at every stage. It began with a conversation with the hiring manager, followed by a take-home assignment that included a mock customer call and building a simple application using Retool. The final round involved meeting with potential peers and leads. Everyone I spoke with was kind, welcoming, and genuinely interested in getting to know me.
- What is Retool's value proposition?
Technical Account Manager
Retool TA reached out a month after my application and seemed really keen. They scheduled a 30-minute chat the next day with the hiring manager (HM), who advanced me. Next was a take-home exercise using Retool with specific deliverables. I then had to demo my work to a solutions engineer (SE) acting as a customer in a 30-minute interview. I prepped a lot, but the SE seemed distracted from the start, unprepared, and uninterested in my presentation. Maybe they were just having a bad day, but it felt unprofessional. They asked basically one question and left only two minutes at the end for my questions. I managed to ask one, but their answer was rushed because they had another call. A few days later, TA (back from being out of office) said their recruitment software was down and they'd have to wait to give feedback, but assured me they didn't want to lose me. Almost two weeks after the technical round, I got a generic rejection email saying they were moving forward with others. I asked for feedback but got no reply. I liked the HM and TA, but the overall experience felt unprofessional and disappointing, like they initially treat candidates well but then dismiss them casually. I wouldn't recommend interviewing here unless you want to waste your time.
