The first call was with a recruiter and it went well. Standard first round questions about previous quota, hunting vs farming, etc. The person was super personable and nice, which made me a bit excited for the position, even though it was a huge pay cut. My second interview was with the hiring manager and it was a joke. First thing he said was that he didn't have any open headcount, but always wants to keep his funnel of talent open. When I asked if he was getting headcount anytime soon, his answer was "Honestly, I hope not. I'm sick of hiring people." So yeah, it was a complete and total waste of time. I can understand interviewing when you don't have headcount yet, but are expecting someone to get promoted or leave or whatever. But when you have no openings in sight, to still take a meeting is crazy. This guy had also never been in SaaS sales, told me he never really even knew what SaaS was before taking this job. To have that as your manager was also a huge red flag for me.

I had an initial screening call with a recruiter, which was scheduled pretty fast after they first reached out. It was a short and felt like a rushed interview. They said I was a great fit and that the sales manager would contact me in about two days to set up the next interview. My contact at the company let me know they were checking my background. I sent a follow-up email that same day, thanking them and saying I was still interested. I didn't hear back, so I followed up again after a week, and then again after another week. They ghosted me and I never got a second interview or any kind of response.

The recruiter was great, and so was the sales manager I interviewed with. They were easy to talk to and clear about the process. While it does seem like a great company to work for, the process was very lengthy and I found another opportunity while waiting for the offer.
