I interviewed for a temporary narrative designer gig. It was kinda weird, honestly, the team didn't seem to know what they wanted and everyone gave me a different job description. Like, the last person asked me how I'd write a scenario when the person before them said I wouldn't be doing any writing at all. The job needed me to move to LA, but it was only temporary. I found out halfway through it was through a temp agency and I wouldn't get benefits. They seemed more interested in if I was a real fan than my actual skills. Didn't get an offer in the end, but I would have turned it down anyway.

I applied online for a Producer role. I interviewed in Sept 2023. The first call was with the recruiter, who was new; then with the hiring manager and production team; then with the teams I would be managing. After being given positive feedback in all three interviews, the recruiter emailed me saying they had to fill the roll with an internal candidate, but since the team liked me so much they wanted to consider me for another roll. Fast forward to another three interviews over three weeks, and I was met with the SAME email from the recruiter saying "oops, we have to fill this roll with an internal candidate as well." Wasted 6 weeks interviewing for two rolls that I was apparently never going to be considered for anyways. I am unsure if this is a unique problem with the Apex Legends team (majority of whom are in Vancouver) or if this was a result of the recent 1000+ layoffs at EA, but I would be very careful when applying here after this atrocious experience.

I was contacted by the hiring manager for a potential role. After some back and forth via email, I went in for an interview. The project wasn't announced yet, so I was interviewing somewhat blind, evaluating the team more than the product. I met with several game leads, including the Art Director, Lead Artist, and Lead Producer. They seemed very confident and presented themselves as a strong team and a place where I could grow. After the interviews, I discussed benefits with the HR manager. I left feeling that Respawn was the right place for me. I received an offer a few days later, which I accepted, and I started two weeks after that.

I applied and after a couple weeks, a recruiter reached out via email asking for my availability to chat with the hiring team. I gave them some dates, but after a few days with no response, I followed up since the slots were expiring. The recruiter apologized, mentioning it was tough to coordinate a time for everyone on the team, and asked for more options. An interview was then scheduled. It was an hour-long video call with about five people from the hiring team present. They seemed well-organized and prepared. A week or two later, I checked in with the recruiter for an update. Another week passed before they got back to me, wanting to schedule another call and asking for my availability. I provided dates, but again, those passed without a follow-up, so I pinged them again to see if they still wanted to connect and offered more times. No word back since. It's been weeks now, so I'm guessing I've been ghosted.
