Editor
I went through two rounds of interviews. The first was one-on-one, and the second was with a panel. A big topic in both was burnout, which seems to be a real issue at the company. One editor mentioned doing other things because they couldn't edit full-time and stay sane, but their answers were vague when I asked about it. The other editor stressed multiple times how mentally taxing and stressful the job is. It sounded like a tough place to work.

So, to get hired as a Contract Editor, you first have to be a graduate student or have a graduate degree from this super specific list of schools they have. If your school isn't on it, you're out, no matter what. After you apply online, you gotta read this whole editing guide they give you. Then there's this 33-question multiple-choice quiz online, which was actually pretty tough with sentence editing examples. On top of that, you need to do a test edit on a sample paper and send it in. If you pass all that, you get the job. No actual interviews or anything.
- Given the Editing Guide's rules on numbers and units, pick the right sentence: 4 mice, weighing 25 g each, were subjected to the forced swim test six, nine, and 12 hours after treatment in a .5 L container. A) 4 mice, weighing 25 g each, were subjected to the forced swim test 6, 9, and 12 hours after treatment in a .5 L container . B) Four mice, weighing twenty-five grams each, were subjected to the forced swim test six, nine, and twelve hours after treatment in a half-liter container. So I applied to be a contract editor, and like a few weeks later they hit me up and asked me to do this editing test, like a practice run on a scientific paper. They gave me a bunch of papers to pick from, different subjects. AJE was super clear on what they wanted me to edit and how to do it. The test took me like a few hours. Then, after a bit more waiting, maybe a few more weeks, they let me know I passed and could start editing for them. They also showed me how to use their internal website. Honestly, it was a really smooth and fast interview.
