Product Manager
So I had three interviews in total. First, a 30-minute call with the recruiter. Then, a 30-45 minute call with the Director of Products. After that, I had a 3-hour virtual onsite interview. It was supposed to be a skills/scenario-based interview covering technical, UX, product strategy, and product discovery knowledge with four team members. They mentioned the next step would be a presentation to a panel and more one-on-one chats, but I didn't get that far. The first two calls were pretty standard, just talking about my background and getting info on the role. The onsite was virtual because of COVID. It was kinda tough, I didn't realize it'd be so focused on skills and scenarios - I thought it'd be more about cultural fit, my bad for not asking. Overall, felt the process was fair and moderately challenging.
- How would you approach creating and designing an app for wardrobe cataloging?
- Given the problem of low new customer retention, what strategies would you propose?
- What criteria would you use to determine whether to proceed with a new feature requiring substantial investment?
Product Analyst
Got an HR screening over the phone, pretty standard. Then a take-home excel data cleaning assignment with questions, note-taking, web search etc. It was a bit vague at times, but if you're thorough, it's no problem. They said no coding or Python needed, but knowing pandas was super helpful for handling the large amount of data. After that, about a 2-hour Zoom interview started with HR, then the hiring manager (who was supposed to be Director of Product but changed to Senior PM), then a Senior UX Designer, and finally an Associate PM. It wrapped up with HR again, discussing benefits, salary, and doing a behavioral priorities test. They mentioned they'd let me know by Friday if an offer would be made and I'd have two days to respond; the long interview was on Tuesday. HR got back to me on Thursday saying they weren't proceeding with my application, giving no specific reason other than a competitive applicant pool. I asked for more feedback and will update if I get any.
- How do you approach your work and decide what to do first?
- What's a product you really like, and how could it be made better?
- Can you share a project that you're really enthusiastic about?
Account Manager
First, there was a quick 15-minute phone chat with the HR Director, who was really great at making the company sound appealing. After that, a 30-minute call with the hiring manager, followed by a 1 to 1.5-hour in-person meeting with various team members from different departments. Then, another 1 to 2-hour in-person session with the current team, where I had to deliver a mock quarterly review presentation to the hiring manager and other Account Managers. For the presentation part, make sure to ask a lot of questions and include data you'd want to show a client, since they don't give you much information to start with.
- Can you share an experience of managing a difficult customer?
- Describe a situation where you dealt with a challenging client.
Software Engineer
Scheduling the interview with the team was smooth. I met several team members who were all really smart and seemed enthusiastic about their work. The interview itself felt fair and relevant to the role. I got an offer pretty quickly after the interview, which maybe happened too fast. One thing I'd suggest changing is giving candidates more time to consider an offer once it's extended.
- Questions about problem solving skills.
- Questions testing reasoning abilities.
- Questions exploring past experiences and behaviors.
