Recruiter
I had a phone chat and then a quick interview that felt impersonal. The questions were tough, and I had some prepared. It was like a practice run with someone who said I'd then interview with a manager. She even told me to ask the manager the same questions I asked her. It felt like they wanted to see if I was even good enough for a real interview. After that initial approval, I had the same interview again with a manager. Honestly, it felt like a total waste of my time.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
Recruiter
The process was great! As soon as I got to the office, I was walked back to their conference room and I waited for a few and then I talked to their hiring manager and there were numerous questions asked. I liked that due to the fact that I want my potential employer to know me aside from what is on my resume. Then I was called to come back for a 2nd interview and that one was a little bit more relaxed.
- Can you tell me about your 5-year career goals?
Technical Recruiter
I got contacted on LinkedIn and after some emailing, we scheduled a phone interview. It was pretty standard with the usual questions, but I was caught off guard when asked about other job opportunities I had going on. I was honest and said I did. Later that day, I was invited to continue the process with an in-person interview and was asked whether the Bingham Farms or Auburn Hills office was closer. I picked Auburn Hills, which seemed to slightly annoy the recruiter, but we scheduled it there anyway. The in-person interview started in a conference room with the recruiter I'd been in contact with. She fired off questions about me, many repeating the same ones from the phone call, and again asked about my other interviews. She was super upbeat, but it felt a bit forced. After about 10 minutes, she took me to her boss's office. He asked the exact same questions she did, which made me wonder why he wasn't in the conference room with us. He also pressed about my other interviews, asking which companies and positions. I answered honestly, but found it off-putting and unprofessional. He then led me to the other side of the office to 'shadow' another technical recruiter, which felt odd for a first interview. This recruiter also asked me all the same questions, including about other interviews and why I preferred the Auburn Hills office. Finally, my original recruiter came back and walked me out. It was a really strange experience overall.
