Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Regeneron.
Principal Data Scientist
I got an internal referral for this role and was contacted by a colleague. We had an engaging initial discussion, and I was asked to give a presentation. Although the presentation went well, I was then ghosted for about 1.5 months. I later found out they hired someone else, a former colleague of mine. I was left unsure about my application status until the very end, and they stopped calling me weekly after two weeks without even sending a rejection. So, mixed feelings – the interview and discussions were good, but the handling of the candidate afterward was very unprofessional.
- Can you describe your strongest and weakest areas?
Data Scientist
The interview process will cover data science techniques (e.g., regression, clustering, deep learning), machine learning models (e.g., RNN, LSTM, CNN), large language models and retrieval-augmented generation, and bioprocess modeling, specifically your AI work in biopharma. You'll also have a problem-solving section with live coding, project discussions, and explanations of your model decisions.
- If you had a scientific superpower, what would it be?
Data Scientist
Interviewed for 3 rounds and then withdrew. First round was with Talent Acquisition, they were late and tried to lowball me by ignoring my experience and focusing on benefits. The second round was with the Hiring Manager, who was technical and asked relevant questions about problem-solving approaches, which I felt went well. The third round was again with Talent Acquisition, who again focused on benefits and dismissed my experience. They offered significantly less than my current salary and market rate, and I was told I wouldn't get my asking salary. Wouldn't recommend.
- What's your strategy for creating a statistical model when you have a limited dataset?
