Other Presentation

I applied for the Social Media and Outreach Manager role in May 2025 and heard back for an interview within a week. I was worried because of online reviews, but figured it wouldn't be as bad as people said. It was worse. None of the interviewers seemed prepared or interested. They all mentioned the poor work-life balance at the company. I also had to complete three social media-related tasks (draft an influencer email, redesign their Instagram feed, and create a sample Reel) with a very short deadline. I did these tasks for free, and they were tedious. It's been over a month since my second interview, and despite three follow-up emails, I haven't heard back. I was ghosted. The whole process felt unprofessional and disrespectful.

Technical Other

I applied for a content writer role but was told I might also fit a product manager opening. They decided to consider me for both. Then I had to do two assignments: a ~500-word blog post on "Alcohol, Dopamine, and the Hedonic Setpoint" (paid $30) and a huge UX copywriting audit of their whole onboarding (30–40 screens). This second one involved finding issues, rewriting copy screen-by-screen, suggesting ways to make it clearer and more engaging, and reducing user friction, complete with screenshots and detailed advice. It was basically real UX work, not a quick test, and I did it for free even though my usual rate is $120/hr and similar jobs cost $600+. After I sent both, they ghosted me. I followed up a few times to see if they got the Google Drive docs, but no reply. Two weeks later, I asked about the blog post payment and got $29.10 via PayPal with zero message. So, they considered me for two jobs, I did a bunch of actual consulting work for free, they never contacted me again, and I got paid (less than) for one part and exploited for the other. It was a really bad, disrespectful, and unprofessional experience.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Could you rewrite the onboarding copy for about 30-40 screens, complete with screenshots, edits, and suggestions to boost clarity, engagement, and reduce friction, essentially performing a full UX copy audit without pay or follow-up?

Behavioral

The recruiter started the call without introducing herself and immediately asked if I had any questions. She inquired about my views on work-life balance, making it clear that it was not a priority or an option in their company culture. She also emphasized that her and her cofounder's design requests were well-thought-out and intentional, implying there would be no room to challenge their decisions. It seemed like they were looking for someone agreeable rather than a product designer who could offer critical input and refine designs.

Behavioral Technical Other

So, the interview journey at Reframe had three parts. First up was about a 30-minute initial screening call, which went pretty well. They mainly wanted to chat about my work-life balance outlook, and a big part of it was talking about the possibility of working long hours and how I'd cope with a heavy workload when projects get demanding. Next, there was a technical round. Interestingly, it wasn't super technical; they used most of the time to explain the company, what they're working on, and to stress again that they expect people to work 60 to 80 hours a week. It felt more like making sure we were on the same page about expectations than a deep dive into my skills. Lastly, they had this paid take-home assignment, which was a nice touch. I finished it and sent it in, but unfortunately, no offer came through, and I didn't get much feedback afterward.
