Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Reflektive.
Software Development Engineer
They had a coding round where one problem was given to solve on the meeting itself. Then a technical interview where mostly ruby on Rails related questions and mysql database systems questions were asked. Then a managerial interview which was like a formality round to check the behavior of the employee. Lastly, an HR interview.
- Tell me about Ruby on Rails.
Software Engineer
I was contacted by a recruiter online. They set up an interview, but after reviewing the job description, I told them I wasn't a good fit due to my background. They insisted, and I ended up having a technical phone screen with the department head. I reiterated my lack of relevant experience, but they said they valued aptitude. We then moved on to coding problems. I explained my thought process as I worked, but there was only silence and typing from their end. It felt like they weren't listening. I finally got their attention and received feedback that there was a specific way to solve the algorithmic problem in Java, which seemed like a 'guess what I'm thinking' test rather than an evaluation of aptitude. The second question was similar. It felt like a waste of time because they weren't assessing my reasoning, just if I knew their preferred solution, which they should have screened for by hiring people with the right background.
- How would you group words from a list that are anagrams of each other?
- Explain the GROUP BY clause in SQL.
Software Engineer
It was a good interview process with challenging questions. The engineers and CEO showed excellent technical knowledge. I had a phone interview with the CEO about two weeks prior to the in-person interview. There was also a small programming project. The in-person interview took place at their SoMa office and involved meeting with the CEO and Engineers. The technical focus was on JavaScript and AJAX.
- Could you explain how to best automatically space two rows of 100px elements using jQuery?
