Product Manager
It was a 5 week process with 8 rounds in total. The stages were: Recruiter Phone Screen, Hiring Manager, VP of Vertical, Lead Product Manager, SVP Product Management, Sr. Director of Ad Ops, Dir. of Data Science, and finally a Case Presentation. This last round involved the VP of Product Marketing, SVP Media, Sr. Data Scientist, Lead PM, Dir. Data Science, Sr. PM, SVP Product, and Sr. Manager of Product. I had 7 really good 1-on-1 interviews where things seemed to be getting better each time. The problem was with the case in round 8. It turned out to be a product marketing and branding case, not a typical product management one. It felt like the first 7 interviews were for a totally different role than the last one.
- Can you develop a re-branding strategy for a company?
Product Manager
So first I had a phone screen with HR and then they set up a 4-hour interview at their office. I got there and was put in this tiny room for the whole time. No office tour or anything, and they didn't even offer coffee, which felt like a sign they don't really care about their employees. The interview was set up with 4 people, each for about an hour. The first person, who seemed to be the most senior, didn't even seem to have read my resume and I felt he was biased from the start. It was super discouraging because the things he didn't like were already on my resume and should have been caught in the phone screen, not after I traveled all the way from San Francisco. I tried to ask questions about the company, but he didn't make time for it. I figured he was the one making the final decision, but then I still had to interview with the next three people for another 3 hours. The last three interviewers really liked me, one even said he'd vote for me. The questions weren't very prepared, and they didn't seem experienced in interviewing. If they already decided not to hire someone after the first interview, they shouldn't waste everyone's time. It would have been way better as a panel interview to save time. The whole experience was pretty negative, and they didn't do anything to show it's a good place to work.
- What is your understanding of mapping?
Product Manager
I had a phone screening first with the HR recruiter, then a few days later with the hiring manager. A few days after that I was scheduled for a couple hours of on site interviews with the hiring manager, then her boss, then the person whose place I would be taking, and some members of the design team. Everyone I met was very friendly. I was surprised how small the office was. I believe they said 300 people worked at that location.
- Can you tell me about your experience presenting to and working with C-level executives?
