Business Intelligence Engineer
I sent in my application online and then got a take-home task that I had to finish in 2 days. The assignment covered SQL, data mining, and database design. About a week later, I had a call with a senior recruiter who told me about the company's benefits and what they do. They also asked some basic questions about my previous work and relevant experience. After that, I had a video chat with the hiring manager. They asked a lot of behavioral questions and then gave me a Python coding problem to solve while they watched. I was also asked a few SQL questions. The hiring manager, senior recruiter, and coordinator were all really great people. The coordinator, in particular, was on top of things and communicated really well. I actually enjoyed their interview process quite a bit, though I did get flustered during the video call. So, if you tend to get nervous or doubt yourself during interviews, make sure you prepare thoroughly.
- Could you describe your approach to a data mining problem?
- I have a data mining question for you that was part of the take-home assignment. I can't share the specifics, unfortunately.
Business Intelligence Engineer
I had a recruiter call, they were really happy with me. Then I got a take-home assignment. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job because they extended an offer to someone else who was further along.
- Using Python or another scripting language, build a tool that extracts data from MySQL and outputs it as JSON files. Given the provided table schema, identify which columns could be used for a join.
Business Intelligence Engineer
The interview process was terrible. I had to do a take-home test that was due in 12 hours. I finished and submitted it, but only got an automated email saying they needed someone with more experience. This is the second time in two years this has happened with the same automated response. Their interview process is really bad. They either don't know what they're looking for or are really negligent in how they evaluate tests. I'm confident I completed the test correctly with the right Python scripts and SQL. It's super frustrating to have put in so much time and get no feedback, especially twice.
- Could you write a Python script to fetch output from the Twitter API and display tweets from a specific user profile?
