Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Raymour & Flanigan.
Sales Consultant
I interviewed with R&F, really excited about the opportunity. With my two degrees and ten years of management experience, I thought it went great with both the recruiter and the store manager. They were very open about location, salary, and training, and said they really liked me. We even did a role play on closing furniture sales. The store manager then directly asked if I was ready to give my two weeks' notice, to which I said yes. Five days later, the recruiter emailed saying other candidates were a better fit for their furniture sales needs. This confused me because both the manager and recruiter initially mentioned training would be provided, and I spoke to a sales consultant at another store who admitted she was new to the business with no furniture experience. How would you categorize this? Discrimination? A change of heart? Bad luck? Watch out for these guys!
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Are you ready to give your notice to your current employer?
Sales Consultant
I first chatted with the recruiter on the phone, and they set me up for an interview the next day. Then, I met with the Store Manager, who was nice but didn't ask many engaging questions. After that, I had an interview with the Showroom Manager, who seemed a bit over it. The next step was to meet the Regional Sales Manager at another store, an hour away. I wore a brown suit because I heard they liked earth tones, but the manager wore blue. The interview lasted another hour, and then they told me I'd move on to the final stage where all four interviewers would discuss my application.
- Describe a time you dealt with a challenging individual and how you de-escalated the situation.
Sales Consultant
The first chat with HR was great! She got me really pumped to interview with the store manager. The manager had a hard time smiling when I met her, keeping a blank expression and looking uninterested. She even asked the same question twice! She didn't seem to want to hire anyone, even though I'm qualified since I'm already in furniture sales.
- What would you do if a coworker said you stole their sale?
