Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Raymour & Flanigan.
Sales Associate
They reached out via email and scheduled a phone interview to see if I was a good fit. The phone interview went great, and the HR rep was ready to move me to training. However, I wanted to meet the managers for a one-on-one before committing. The in-person interview seemed good, and I was told when and where training would start. But the manager mentioned they like to keep things 'traditional'. After that, there was silence. I followed up by email and phone, but the HR rep seemed nervous and told me the position was filled. They didn't even offer a courtesy email about the training not happening. The rep then switched back to a perky tone and said they'd let me know about future openings. I decided against pursuing it further due to their apparent bias. My experience shows that some companies value physical traits over actual sales ability and potential, especially for diverse candidates. I found a better, more diverse company that recognized my potential. This isn't bitterness, it's just my experience.
- Can you explain how Raymour and Flanigan's company culture aligns with your personal sales approach?
Sales Associate
I was contacted by a store manager, who hired me a year ago but I couldn't accept. She contacted me again 10 months later without me applying. I went through 3 interviews over a month. They offered me the position 5 days after my last interview. I also had a hair drug test and background check that took a week and a half. The process was just too long and nerve-wracking, but I am qualified and have a good track record. I think this could be a turn-off for more qualified applicants and seen as unorganized. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that this is a busy company. My advice to interviewees is to be patient, dress for success, and know they are looking for the right fit.
- Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
- What makes you the right candidate for this company?
Sales Associate
After an initial informal phone call and a brief phone interview a few days ago, I went in for the first interview today. It was with a Store Manager and a Corporate VP. The interview was very in-depth, covering my background, motivation, sales tactics, and personality. They also made some subtle remarks about first-year wage expectations, mentioning 35-40k. They were very open in answering my questions. The company seems to be focused on growth, with competitive employees both in-store and between stores. I expect a second interview in a few days. The VP mentioned that the role might not be in the store I interviewed at, as there are openings elsewhere that could better align with my interest in management. The next steps involve a second interview, an extensive background check, and a hair follicle drug test.
