Project Manager
The interview process at Rapid7 was pretty good overall, even though it required quite a few interviews. It started with a recruiter call, then a hiring manager chat, followed by a long panel interview with about 4 people from different departments plus the hiring manager, which took around 4 hours. The last step was a final round with a VP. It's clear Rapid7 really wants to hire people who are a good fit for their company culture. The recruiter could have been a bit quicker with follow-ups. Overall, a solid experience, just a bummer I didn't get an offer.
- Can you describe your management style?
- Tell me about your experience and background.
- Could you provide an example of a project you managed?
Project Manager
I had an initial phone chat with the recruiter where we discussed the role and my salary expectations. Then, a few days later, I spoke with the hiring manager for about 30 minutes. It seemed like a good fit, and they wanted me to meet with some team members. I didn't hear back for two weeks, so I emailed the recruiter, and then waited another two weeks without a response. I sent a follow-up email. The recruiter finally replied, stating they were looking for someone with more experience in a particular area, which was one of four desired qualifications mentioned in the job posting. Even though I met all the required qualifications and two of the four desired ones, it wasn't enough, and they decided to hold off to see if they could find a candidate who met all the criteria.
- Tell me about a misconception people have about you.
- What's something people commonly misunderstand about you?
Project Manager
Got reached out by a recruiter, then had a phone screen. About a week later, I was invited to their office for an interview. I'm not sure why they even considered me since it was an IT-focused role, which isn't my background. The job and role weren't clearly defined during the initial recruitment and phone screening. I knew it was in cyber security, and I was just exploring options since my company had recently closed. However, I would have appreciated more information before the in-person interview. I was initially scheduled for three interview sessions, but it was cut short after just one. I was told the interviewers for the next sessions were 'swamped' and couldn't make it. They mentioned they'd review feedback from the first interview and let me know if the subsequent interviews were still necessary. But it was pretty clear they just ended the whole process because I didn't have the required experience or IT background. Not sure why they bothered with the pretense. Even I realized this wasn't the right fit and was glad to leave. It was a complete waste of my time and money for parking. One interviewer seemed disengaged, checking his phone frequently. The office has a stereotypical startup vibe with trendy decor. Their company motto is 'don't be an a%#', which they clearly don't adhere to. They also have this weird 'act like a moose' thing. Seriously, don't waste your time here.
- Why are you interested in the tech industry?
