First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rapid7.
Product Manager
Had a pre-screen call with a recruiter who was late and way too casual. They really pushed for my salary expectations, saying they couldn't share theirs. When I told them, they magically could pull it up and I was over their number, which was awkward and clear they didn't like it. I was ghosted for 4 months then got a rejection email.
- What salary range are you looking for?
Product Manager
It was a multi-round interview process involving product management, product marketing, UX, and engineering teams. The interviews heavily emphasized cross-functional collaboration. There wasn't a presentation round. The process included 4 interviews, each lasting about 45 minutes. All interviews were similar in style, focusing on discussing my experience and how I work with teams. It felt very informal, but I left with a positive impression of the company. My advice for preparation is to learn the core values and map your experiences to them.
- How would you handle a situation where a feature was released and didn't meet expectations?
Product Manager
I applied online on July 19. Then, on July 26, a recruiter from Rapid7 reached out via email for a phone interview. I replied with my availability the same day, and the recruiter confirmed the interview for July 28. On August 1, I had the phone interview with the recruiter. He was pretty chill and nice, knew a lot about the Austin-based role even though he's in Boston. We talked about my background and how it matched the job. He also asked about salary expectations, and we were aligned on the range. The recruiter said he'd pass the info to the hiring manager in Toronto. The next day, August 2, the recruiter sent a personal email (not a generic one) saying I wouldn't be moving forward, and gave a good reason. The whole thing was quick and straightforward. I liked how the recruiter treated me, even though I didn't get far.
