First you submit your resume, cover letter, and any other stuff they ask for. Sometimes you might have to do an online test or some quick questions. Then, there's a chat, maybe on the phone or video, with HR or a recruiter. They'll check out your background, see if you're a good fit, and ask about your salary needs and when you can start. If the job needs it, you might have to do a technical test, a case study, or some coding. For example, IT folks might have to set up routers or fix network issues, finance people might get an Excel test or do financial modeling, and data analysts might have to use SQL or Python. After that, the hiring manager or team lead will talk to you to see how good your technical skills are and if you can solve problems.
